The tennis facility in Golden Gate Park was part of John McLaren’s original design in 1884, so the boundaries are part of the historical landmark and can’t be changed. The original facility had 22 courts, but with undersized alleys between them; the renovated venue created 16 tennis courts (and five pickleball courts) with the recommended 12-foot minimum between courts. The two- and three-court batteries provide better access for players and more intimate settings. The sunken feature court offers three rows of seating on both sides, and the new center has LED lighting and a state-of-the-art clubhouse with pro shop, locker rooms and an after-school learning center.
